The main ideas of the book:
- The rise of generative AI represents a seismic shift in education. School leaders need to respond accordingly and match the magnitude of their approach to the size of the change.
- School leaders must ensure learning (not timesaving) remains the focus when students and educators utilize AI.
Why I chose this book:
First of all, I want to be clear that this summary focuses only on the first half of Tony Frontier’s book, AI with Intention. It’s the part written specifically for school leaders, and I found it to have so much of value to say that it deserved its own summary. The second half of the book is for teachers, and I hope to share some of its content in a future resource, too.
After reading quite a few books covering AI in the context of education, AI with Intention is the first that I felt really captured the true scope of what we’re facing.
Generative AI does not merely present a tech question like whether to or not to adopt interactive whiteboards. It reaches beyond technology and touches the heart of education. I believe it demands that we, as school leaders, grapple with the
purpose of school and the meaning of learning.
We must guide the next generation to use AI responsibly. If we don’t, who will? I hope that this book will give you confidence that you can be a wise and clear-minded leader when it comes to AI.
